About Ticks
Keeping your pets tick free is of the utmost importance considering the risk of contracting biliary (tick-bite-fever) or ehrlichia, two tick borne diseases. Bloemfontein is considered a high risk area for biliary. It is essential to check your animal for ticks on a regular basis. If you have found a tick on your animal close monitoring will help in recognising early symptoms. The quicker biliary is diagnosed and treated, the greater the chance of survival for your pet.

- loss of appetite

- pale gums (may later turn yellow)
- dark or port coloured urine

About Worms
Worms are one of the most common health problems for pets. There are five types of worms that generally affect pets: heartworms, roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and whipworms.

Important Inoculations
- Puppies need to be inoculated at 6 weeks, 9 weeks and at 12 weeks with a 5 in 1: parvovirus (katgriep), distemper virus (hondesiekte)
- Rabies inoculations should be done at 12 weeks for puppies and again at 7 months
- All dogs should be inoculated annually with a 5 in 1 booster and rabies booster
